I heard Amped 3 is supposed to be like the Tony Hawk of snowboarding games because you can choose what order to complete the tasks and its supposed to have a wacky sense of humor.
I havent played Amped 3 but the Amped Series is like u said kinda like tony hawk… Its not like SSX over the top unrealistic… So if u like SSX games then u might not like Amped… U cant taek ur board off mid air throw it around u head while doing a misty flip and finishing off by break dancing on the board right before landing… Its not liek that its more on hte realistic side … Sure its not totally realistic but the tricks are based on real ones that people can actually do just exagerrated slightly for obvious video game purposes

Which graphics card would you buy. (tech heads required) ATi Fan.?

Ok, Whilst I am very knowledgeable on computers (ive been a repair tech for 15 years) I always like to get an outside perspective as specs on paper are not the same as real world use. As far as I am concerned, their is nothing better than word of mouth.

My current specs:
Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz per core X4
4 gig OCZ platinum
Asrock Blackline Crossfire core1600 (p35 chipset beating X58, who would have thought)

LG 22″
1920 X 1080 is my gaming resolution. I like my Anti aliasing power and Anisotropic filtering.

Games I am gearing up for:

Deus Ex – Human revolution
Battlefield 3
Rage.

Previous card:
XFX 4870 XXX edition.

sadly it dropped dead but the nice guys at XFX have offered me a rebate on the dead card for a new model off their upgrade chart.

So these are my choices for my budget of <£150 ($270)

XFX Radeon HD 5870 850M 1GB DDR5 (really stretching my budget)

XFX Radeon HD 5850 725M 1GB DDR5 (comfortably accommodated)

XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 800M 1GB (easilly affordable, but not quite the power im after, overclock maybe?)

Or the crossfire option:

XFX Radeon HD 5770 850M 1GB buy one now, and another in two months. total cost about the same as 1 X 5870.

I know ATi`s 6XXX series cards are out but from all I have read, they are not worth the extra money over the 5XXX series. But I am open to suggestions.

Thanks for your time.
P.S.

I am not against Nvida, its just a pointless purchase for me as I own a crossfire board and ATi currently represents the best “bang for buck” solution.

***
5870 v 6850 on 3dMarks benches puts the 6850 at only 4% past the 5870 performance mark. T hats not much for an Extra 35% on the price tag
Also for those quoting US and Canada prices, I am in the UK. we pay more for everything. (including near $10 for a gallon of fuel…) So I am looking for best value for my money, with enough power to do what I want.

TJ Marcus answers:

Try to get 5870. The 6990 just rolled out, two 6970 gpus on one graphic card, see linustechtips or motherboardsorg on you tube for reviews and unboxings. Me I use Sapphire 6970, run any game out now maxed ! The only thing about 6870/6850 cards I don’t like is that they are mid range cards, if you want comparable performance or better to 4870 you want a 5870 a high end card, so you can max it out properly.

It depends what your goal is.
If you just want to stay toned or lose body fat percentage, I would go with the eliptical. The ab circle is not very good and will only work your abs. It would more than likely be a $200 coat rack within a couple months.
I you are doing strength training to gain muscle, I would forget the total gym because that too is a machine whose durability is questionable. I would go for a small fitness center from Sears or something like that. Those workout centers have 3 or 4 stations that will work your whole body. You can get these for about the same cost as an eliptical. That way you can just go outside for a run for your cardio and breathe some fresh air.

TJ Marcus answers:

Hi,

I graduated high school at 240 pounds and at 5 foot 3 that made me about as round as I was tall. I was one of those overweight teenagers who ate anything and everything without any regard to the effects it was having on my own body. Therefore, I began the diet pills, which did not work; I ate the special diet foods and even began drinking diet beverages. None of this stuff worked for me, just as it does not work for millions of overweight people. Eating less did not work and I was not one to work out or even get up and do anything remotely related to exercise. I knew I would look silly and it would hurt. I never thought or really cared about the health effects this would have on me, back then.

A year ago after a successful weight loss plan, now at 120 pounds, it is a major difference. I’ve lost 30 pounds in the first month. The most significant change in my life is the amount of energy I now have and the way my clothes fit loosely. Everyone close to me and people I haven’t seen in a while are amazed and tell me that I look really good. This is a life changing experience for me although at first I was skeptical about the weight loss plan.

Without getting too technical, there is a hormone produced by your thyroid gland called ‘Thyroxine’ that raises the metabolic rate of almost all the cells in your body. The weight loss program has proven to be effective in the short and long-term, without need to endure starvation and without any daily athletic workout. (But taking a light exercise every few days is highly recommended). Best of all you can eat what you most enjoyed without gaining any weight The weight loss program is affordable by all and do not need to pay a monthly fees to use it. In contrast to diet pills regime where you need to buy it on a regular basis and you will gain more weight when you stop taking it.

The success has inspired me to help others and you could contact me at myweightsuccess@gmail.com if you need more details.

what is better for loosing weight, a treadmill or a stepper?

im trying to loose weight, and i have been using a treadmill and a stepper recently. Im wondering what machine would be best for weight loss, because i heard a treadmill is better when jogging on it, and with a stepper the amount of calories burned is high, but you might not see any weight loss results because it is supposed to build muscle. Im would love to know what peoples opinions on this are. I also have an Ab Circle Pro, and if anyone had any reviews on which machine is good for weightloss please comment. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could help me out here, because I dont want to waste all my time using one, when i could be getting better results with the other.
Well if they lift a lot more than you …and if they are heavy gainers and your a light… You can’t pass if your both doing the same. Abs and muscle don’t happen over night. And about the paying for the gym… The new planted fitness down the street from me just opened and is desperate for members… Is there any gym opening near you? I pay $10 a month! And the exercises id recommend would be (since you can’t buy stuff) run a lot… Look up a lot of variations on the push up, and do lots sit ups/crunches…and when you can start doing pull ups they are “the” body building exercise

TJ Marcus answers:

One thing that works for me is before I eat I drink a large glass of water, then if I’m still hungry, I won’t eat as much as I would have.

Also, fyi:

1 pound = 3500 calories.

If you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight.

Ie, if you eat 2000 calories per day and burn 2500, you will lose 1 pound every week.

The average person burns 1500-2000 calories per day, just being alive.

Powerwalking can burn 200-500 calories per hour.
Exercise bike can burn 200-600 calories per hour.
Swimming can burn 100-800 calories per hour.
Jogging/running can burn 300-1200 calories per hour.

*********VERY IMPORTANT************

when trying to lose weight, very important to drink lots and lots of water ! ! ! You should drink at least 10 glasses per day, like 1 glass every hour !

This helps your body get rid of the fat when you are burning calories

Forget it…
“The Ab Circle Pro comes with a nutrition plan, and reviewers note that it’s this calorie-restricted diet that actually leads to fat loss — not the device itself. Tests show that using the device for three minutes doesn’t burn any more calories than a three-minute walk. The jury is still out on how well the Ab Circle Pro strengthens core muscles, but there are certainly far less expensive ways to do it.

Some owners also complain that using the Ab Circle Pro can be hard on the knees and back. Even owners who find the device fun to use say it’s poorly made, and we found many complaints about build quality and early breakdowns. Reviewers also complain about the company’s pricing and customer service.”

TJ Marcus answers:

Well the thing is no matter how much you work out on your abs, your not going to be able to see your abs because you still have the layer of fat above it. So what i recommend along with still working out your abs, like crunches, russian twists etc, you need to exercise.

First things first. ALWAYS exercise before you eat, like breakfast. You lose about 3x more body fat than you normally would.

Eat more meals in a day, but smaller meals.. Like maybe about 5 spread out through the day. And clearly eating cake 5 times a day will not work. So eat something healthy. When you eat, ur brain releases fat burning enzymes so you need to keep doing that.

Last thing – alternate the amount of calories you eat in a day, dont set like a limit to 2000 every day. Do one day maybe 1700, another day 2000, next day 1600, other 2100. If you keep it at a set pace, your metabolism will adjust to it and it will only burn that much. So basically its like tricking your own body…

Hope it helps
goodluck!

Remember that not only crunches give you abs. You need to do aerobic type exercise (running/walking) when doing crunches work forward and to both sides. Balancing on your butt sitting up with your legs about 6-8″ off the ground is also a way to strengthen your abs.

TJ Marcus answers:

You need to give more details to be sure. 15 pounds in 2 months is completely obtainable while still remaining a healthy appetite. However, you really need to do some research on eating a properly balanced diet and stay away from obvious “bad” foods.

Also, your workout regime will always benefit from changing things up. Don’t do the same workout twice a day every day! Change it up! Swimming, walking, jogging, sports, etc.

So to sum it up, yes you can lose 15 pounds in 2 months. Just eat healthy and maintain a nice workout regime!

TJ Marcus answers:

Focus on your health, not the number on the scale, and you will soon achieve a healthy weight. 40 pounds in 4 months is aggressive but possible. Do NOT starve yourself. You body needs food for health, energy, and to keep your metabolism from slowing down. Two words: diet and exercise.

Exercise: Set aside an hour a day to exclusively exercise. This could be fast walking, running, biking, stair climbing, swimming, treadmill, a workout class, anything that gets your heart rate up and keeps it up for an hour. Second is to keep moving. Take every opportunity to walk around. Park at the far end of the parking lot. Walk around the halls or outside at lunchtime. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. And lastly, vary your exercise. It will keep you from getting bored and your muscles from becoming fatigued, which can lead to injury.

Diet: Don’t drink anything except water and skim milk. You can cut out a lot of calories by avoiding soda, juice, sugary coffee drinks, shakes, etc. Don’t eat processed food at all. Choose foods that look like nature intended. For example, eat an apple, not apple juice or applesauce. You get all the nutrition plus fiber which will keep you full longer and no added sugar or calories. Eat lots of veggies–high nutrition, low calories. Make sure you get enough protein by eating meat/fish/chicken about the size of a deck of cards each day and/or drinking milk (8 grams of protein per cup), eating 1 or 2 eggs, eating dried beans and lentils, or one serving (measure it) of nuts. Eat only whole grains such as brown rice, plain oatmeal, whole wheat pasts. Aim daily for 3 cups of skim milk, 2-3 fruits, 4-5 ounces of grains, 3 ounces of meat, one serving of vegetarian protein (eggs, beans, lentils), and as many veggies as you want. Avoid sweets, oils, and be very careful of sauces and dressings. Do not add salt to your food.

Pack you lunch and healthy snacks. Your tastebuds will change so you stop craving the junk food that you used to eat. If you stick to this for a week, you will see dramatic results and begin to feel more energetic. This will motivate you to keep going and soon you will feel and be healthy and look fantastic too. Good luck to you!

There are quite a few actually

Get into a push up position, but rest on you elbows and keep your back straight, hold it for a minute then rest and repeat.

Lay on your back as if you are about to begin a sit up, lift your shoulder blades off the ground and put your arms parallel to the ground and slowly move so that your right hand finger tips touch the back of your heels, and then slowly move so your left hand finger tips touch the back of your left heel, 25 times each.

Lay flat on your back with your legs out stretched, with your hands behind your head, then simultaneously move your knees and elbows so they meet as if you have just finished a crunch, slowly reset your postion then repeat.

Get into a crunch position, and in the middle of it (so your shoulder blades are between the ground and an upright position) rotate your body so you touch one elbow to the ground at a time, do each side 25 times or so.

Hope some of these made sense and help out, good luck!

TJ Marcus answers:

Like someone said already, it wouldn’t hurt to exercise your lower back as well, just to give it a little more strength and endurance. Your lower back muscles serve as the antagonist muscles to your abs, meaning they work in contrast to your ab muscles. So, when you get to the end of the concentric (actual lifting) part of your sit up, your lower back muscles actually halt your movement. You may not realize it, but they’re doing some work too when you do sit ups. If your doing elevated leg lifts, you are using your upper body and upper extremities to hold and stabilize yourself. Your upper body muscles are most likely just getting fatigued from having to hold and stabilize all of your body weight. That is quite common.

Ab workouts: what do to and how long before results?

Ok, I’m 19 years old and in fairly average shape. I’m certainly not fat, but I do have some extra baggage that I’d like to get rid of, and I also want to go beyond that and actually get toned. I can do sit-ups and crunches, but I’m not prepared to go out and buy any equipment, and fancy moves tend confuse me unless someone is physically there to show me. Also, I always get lost with counting and besides it discourages me. I do best when I have music on and I just listen to that as I do the exercises because it keeps me going. With all that in mind, what sort of workout plan would you recommend, and what kind of time frame can I be looking at as far as visible results go?

TJ Marcus answers:

You can combine a regular Aerobics session with toning weights for part of it. First thing you need to check out is regular Aerobics sessions you might be able to join, ones with a pro instructor and not with the fat ladies, since you are definitely not in that category.

The regimen varies in accord with your specific objectives. Any pro instructor with more than 3 years of experience ought to be able to offer guidance. The more experience the better. Especially if they look like you want to look like.

Don’t let anyone discourage you. There is a very helpful blog on this subject just posted at:

http://wwww.spaces.msn.com/members/up-escalator

No, you certainly don’t need to buy lots of equipment.

Try bicycling in safe places during the summer. Gals can do that in groups, too.

Think also how you can improve your diet along the lines of WHAT you are eating, less focus on eating less. If you are exercising properly, you have better health overall and far less chance of getting fat, Aerobic activities burn up the calories. Also improves your appetite.

Music helps many things. People should investigate it for many other activities. Forget about counting, just make sure you do each prescribed exercise for a sufficient time. You might have 15 minutes assigned for a particular exercise, but you can do it for 3 minutes and then switch to another one, and again….say for four different exercises. Then you repeat that routine four more times. Poof, your hour has been done.

Anything that makes it less boring is a plus. Make sure you drink a big glass of water about 1/2 hour before you start. And again when you are done.

Time to results of a good kind that you feel is only two weeks if you are doing 6 days a week for one hour. Time to results that look like stuff disappearing vary, and again, your diet is a factor. Try a CLA supplement also. You can look that up on the internet. The Canadians even conducted an experiment to see if it would help make leaner bacon (they used it on pigs). It had wonderful results.

It is a natural supplement, not a Frankenstein chemical. Found especially in the milk of cows who eat grass, like God intended.

TJ Marcus answers:

The one thing you left out is your diet. Without a low fat diet you can do a thousand crunches and you abs won’t show. Add reverse crunches and the air bicycle is a goo exercise also.

Eat a healthy breakfast and don’t skip it. Eating a healthy breakfast would jump-start your day, give you energy and can help you eat in moderation at lunch and dinner. I usually eat an apple and a protein shake before doing so. i also know its a good idea to eat fast acting carbs and lots of protein upon rising because the body hasn’t ate the whole time while sleeping. Can someone provide some suggestions?

Thanks!

Actually a lot of people don’t know this but the best time to eat is after you work out because its when your metablolism is the fastest and you burn the carbs off quicker, with out excersizing after.
Id say, eat a piece of fruit before you excersize,
then after eat a big breakfast,
you burn it quicker, and
its easier to excersize with something light in your stomach

hope i helped! :]

Pre-workout carbohydrate sources?

Alright, so I’ve been reading a lot about bulking, and a few articles I came across on bodybuilding.com recommend that you eat a slow-acting carb, like oatmeal, 1-2 hours before working out then eating an orange right before your workout for some fast acting carbs. The only problem is the it that oatmeal (just rolled oats/none of that instant crap) has a higher glycemic index rating than an orange. Meaning that that carbs in oatmeal break apart faster, therefore affecting the blood sugar quicker. I’m just making sure I have this right
I try to stick to the 40/40/20 diet. I cut out most refined grains and sugars, and stick to whole wheat and natural sugars (fructose).

You’re right, high G.I. Rated foods break down faster, and you should take some about 30 minutes pre-workout to get some energy in the gym.

Besides that pre workout carb intake, i would try to stick to low GI carb sources for the rest of the day. But no need to get too crazy about carbs, a lot of bulky guys out there are carb monsters. Just get enough protein and watch out for sugar and fat, basically empty calories.

How can I train myself for speed, power and stamina?

Well, i want to start free running (parkour), and everything I’m reading says you should start by having those three things.
I’m not too out of shape, but I’m there (not obese or anything of the sort, just average). I have exercise-prone asthma, but when I take medication before a workout, and a fast acting inhaler (if I need it), it usually isn’t a problem. I like to push myself fas far as I can go, but I know my limits as well.
I was just hoping I could find some ways to train these three things to get myself started for parkour.
Thanks people.

After your normal workouts, go run STANDS!!. This will build everything you are looking for plus a greater appreciation for your normal workouts. Stands, which some people call stadiums, are when you go to the bleachers at your gym or football field, and begin running up and down the stands.
